To be honest, this is really an experiment. I’m not ashamed to admit it. While my husband Mike has been a machinist practically right out of the womb, my exposure has been limited to hearing about it second hand, over the dinner table… I do have it in my blood though. My original Norwegian ancestor, great-great-great grandfather Andreas, settled in Chicago and listed himself as a machinist on the 1865 census. That’s gotta count for something, right? I’ll let you decide…
Last spring I came on board to work side by side with Mike. Reading prints, ordering material, bookkeeping is all doable for me. But the more daunting and challenging aspects of running a business are new. As General Manager of Advanced Machine, Mike’s been carrying the full load. You’ve really gotta give the guy a hand because Advanced is still here. But I digress… Here I am, taking over the sales & marketing side and I can see right away that it’s no picnic given the economic woes the country is going through. I am, however, a determined gal.
That’s where you come in. As fellow shop rats, I know you have things to talk about – lots of things to talk about. Machining is a very interesting subject and I’m really hoping a few of you come on board to talk about it.
Keep coming back . There will be more to come and I want you to be part of it.
